Event Date: September 1st, 2011
Venue:
Event Time: 12:00 am

This is a virtual collaborative recording project open to anyone. The idea is to have (you) record your instrumentation of “Down on the Corner” to Youtube where we will then create a video including everyone’s contributions (dust off your webcams, cowbells, & tubas)…

*update – here’s the finished product

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO GET PLUGGED IN

Step 1: DOWNLOAD
Download an MP3 of this recording of “Down on the Corner” here. (This is exactly the same audio taken from the Youtube video you just watched above)

Step 2: RECORD
Record a video of you adding some type of instrumentation to this. Ex: Sing the 2nd verse (starts at 0.51 on the MP3), play a  cowbell, do a wicked guitar solo, play the flugelhorn…
*TIPS: This doesn’t have to be super high quality (it can be done using your webcam) but just make sure you use headphones to listen to the MP3 while you’re recording to reduce the amount of noise. It is important that you start your recording at the same time as when the MP3 starts (even if you are only playing for a short section of the song). This will make it easier for us to sync up.

Step 3: UPLOAD
Upload your video to Youtube.
*TIPS: If you don’t want everyone to see your video, just make it unlisted (instructions here).

Step 4: SEND
Send us a link to your video by either emailing it to tribehousecollective@gmail.com or post it below in the comments.

We will compile all of the submitted recordings and post the completed video Oct. 1 on here on our site so make sure you get your video sent in before Sept. 30. Looking forward to seeing what this experiment brings… here are some similar projects to get your juices flowing by Eric Whitacre (thanks for the link Ryan Donn) & Kutiman.

Lyrics & Chords in the Key of E
Down on the Corner (by Creedence Clearwater Revival)

E                                B                                E
Early in the evenin’ just about supper time
E                                                        B                     E
Over by the courthouse they’re starting to unwind
A                                          E
Four kids on the corner trying to bring you up
E                                                   B                          E
Willy picks a tune out and he blows it on the harp

CHORUS:
A                        E        B                  E
Down on the corner, out in the street
A                     E
Willy and the Poorboys are playin’
B                      E
Bring a nickel; tap your feet

Rooster hits the washboard and people just got to smile
Blinky thumps the gut bass and solos for a while
Poorboy twangs the rhythm out on his kalamazoo
Willy goes into a dance and doubles on kazoo

(CHORUS)
(SOLO)

You don’t need a penny just to hang around
But if you’ve got a nickel, won’t you lay your money down?
Over on the corner there’s a happy noise
People come from all around to watch the magic boy

(CHORUS x 2)
