Sarah Brendel’s friends speak for her new album
Posted : June 11th, 2012 by TribeHouse
When you’ve worked long, hard hours on the tracking, producing, mixing, and mastering of a new album, you can often find yourself staring at this piece of vinyl (or CD or digital track) and think, “OK, now I just have to figure out a way to let the rest of the world hear this”.
German singer songwriter Sarah Brendel will be having her official North American release at Lille Gard Festival this summer (June 30) for her new album “BEFORE THE MOUNTAINS”. But instead of just staring at this incredible collection of songs that reflect her life as an indie musician (literally) living in the TribeHouse artist community on the outskirts of Dresden, she has chosen to let her friends speak about the album with a collection of Youtube videos from all around the globe.
Every week she will release a new episode as part of this “Series of Friends” and here’s the latest episode:

MORE ABOUT THE ALBUM:
Deserting all masquerades, Sarah presents herself in her most coarse and fascinating incarnation to date. The album reveals facets broadly transcending the limitations of genres, intertwining threads, connecting neo folk and country rhythms, stumbling over the roots of blues, casting a glance through the window of pop, losing herself in sound collages, and uttering a poem every step of the way. Like Sarah’s voice, the instruments on the album sound just as free and unaffected, maybe because not only the vocals but also the drums and guitars were recorded live without overdubs. The mixture of rough sketches and pure, unembellished beauty truly makes the album rustle. The art-work in book form emphasizes the music in every aspect and every page contains hand-written lyrics with small drawings of photographs and paintings from the Brendel family. BEFORE THE MOUNTAINS is a voyage of discovery to find a treasure of inexpressible worth.
